Request for Proposals: Youth Design Consultant for Mangroves Matter Impact Toolkit

Introduction:

ThinkOcean has launched a Request for Proposal (RFP) to enlist the services of 1-2 individuals aged 18-30 for graphic design tasks aimed at creating a ‘MangrovesMatter Youth Ocean Toolkit’. This toolkit will concentrate on raising awareness about the importance of mangroves in marine ecosystems and their impact on ocean health and communities across the world. 

The toolkit is developed by the youth-led team at ThinkOcean with a conservation focus, overlooking the importance of mangrove forests and highlighting ThinkOcean’s 2023 Mangrove Impact Project in Cameroon.

Services Needed:

Through this RFP, ThinkOcean is seeking graphic designers or illustrators to design the MangrovesMatter: Ocean Impact Toolkit. The toolkit will serve as an educational resource, highlighting the significance of mangroves and their role in maintaining healthy oceans. Illustrators are highly encouraged to apply.


The selected individual(s) will be responsible for creating visually appealing designs for the toolkit of about 20 pages, including cover pages, infographics, diagrams, and other graphic elements. The toolkit will primarily consist of written content provided by ThinkOcean, with the addition of visually engaging graphics to enhance the overall presentation.


While written material, organizational branding materials, and toolkit samples will be provided, designers may need to supplement these with additional images and illustrations. Designer/s will deliver three PDF proofs for the toolkit, accommodating edits from the ThinkOcean team. The final deliverables will be formatted for both print and digital applications.


To apply, candidates must submit the following four documents: 

1. Full name, age, and contact details (phone, email, current address)

2. Statement of suitability: It is essential that your statement of suitability gives full but concise information relevant to the proposal, clearly demonstrating how you are an ideal candidate for this role. Please provide specific examples to establish this. The statement of suitability should not exceed 500 words. 

3. Graphic design portfolio: Showcasing relevant work such as print/digital publications or educational campaigns (with a focus on English)

4. CV: should include education, professional qualifications, employment history, and the names and contact details for two referees. CVs should not exceed two sides of A4 pages (size 12 font). 

5. 1-2 references: Previous clients, professors, or employers involved in similar projects (contact information only)

Joint applications from teams of two graphic designers are welcome. Applicants can be based anywhere, but applications from those in low- and middle-income ODA-eligible countries are particularly encouraged.

Timeline:

The deadline for sending over applications is February 25th , 2024. Work is scheduled to commence immediately and conclude by the second week of March 2024. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis.


Payment:

The total compensation for this project is $100 USD, capped at a maximum of 150 USD for illustrators. Payment will be made upon satisfactory completion and delivery of the final graphic designs for the MangrovesMatter: Ocean Impact Toolkit. Equipment will not be provided, and project expenses will not be reimbursed.
